Fresh from his two goal salvo against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero is aiming to help his side topple fierce city rivals Real Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday.
It is ten years since Atletico claimed victory in the Madrid derby at home and nine years since they last beat Madrid at the Bernabeu so Aguero is fully aware of the importance of securing a victory in this game.
"It will be difficult, but we want to do well and take our chances to beat
Madrid. The derby is the ideal match to succeed," he said, in an interview with AS.
" I want to play no matter what. The derby is a very nice game and we need all
three points. It is the game you have most desire to win. And we want to give joy to Atletico people,
who have gone many years without a victory. A derby is nice for the
fans and for myself, it motivates me.
"Atletico are a great team and they will demonstrate it in this game. I would like
to make all the Atletico fans happy."
Regarding speculation of a move to Chelsea, Aguero said he is focussed on his football with Atletico and says he is happy at the club.
"My mind is on the derby, it's nice to say I could play in a team like Chelsea but I continue the same as before. I want to play for Atletico til the death. I took a four year contract at Atletico, I came here when I had just turned 18-years-old, I feel almost as if
born here. This is a club that has given me much joy, sadness too, but it is an club in which I am very happy. I am grateful to the people and I marvel at
Atletico," he declared.
